HEART & SOLE FITNESS FESTIVAL HISTORY
Mercy Medical Center and Mayor Tom Dale of Nampa have paired up to celebrate and proclaim Nampa’s Healthy Heart Day on February 14, 2008 with the Heart and Sole Fitness Festival. Each year hundreds of our neighbors in our community pass away from or are informed that they have a cardiac related illness. Much of this illness can be prevented or treated. Through education and wellness opportunities, the number of cardiac related events can be significantly reduced. It is our goal at Mercy Medical Center to assure that our community has access to educational events concerning heart attack risks and cardiac wellness.
The past four years Mercy has hosted the Heart and Sole event for women, since Heart Disease is the leading cause of death amongst women in Idaho. The Heart and Sole event consisted of a luncheon and educational forum for women one day as well as a health fair and open pass to the Nampa Recreation Center another day. Every year our attendance at the event has grown to over 250 participants. This year we have combined both of these events to have a Healthy Heart Walk-a-Thon and Health Fair in the morning along with a luncheon and motivational speaker, Donna Hartley, at the noon hour, all events taking place in one day! More importantly, the event has been expanded to men and women to attend and educate themselves on healthy heart habits on one of the most heartfelt days of the year, Valentine’s Day.
