Nampa, Idaho –

Mercy Medical Center Wins Hospital Quality Award from Blue Cross

NAMPA, ID - Mercy Medical Center announced today that it received top honors
from Blue Cross of Idaho for its work in a year-long Quality Incentive Program
for Idaho hospitals, making it the fourth quality award Mercy has received in
the past year.

The Blue Cross of Idaho program was designed to improve the quality of patient
care, safety and affordability. The program is the first of its kind in the
state to measure patient safety and the quality of health care in hospitals and
to recognize exemplary performance and outcomes. Mercy Medical Center was
presented the Award of Achievement as the top performing hospital in the state
at a “Hospital Quality Conference” last month.
“We are very committed to providing excellent care and have all worked very
hard to that end, and this award reflects the quality of our care here at Mercy
Medical Center,” said Maryann Reese, Chief Operating Officer. “We are proud to
be recognized for our achievements on both a state and national level.”

Twenty-nine Idaho hospitals participated in the program. Hospitals were judged
on several criteria including the implementation of evidence-based measures that
are known to improve outcomes. The primary focus was in areas such as pneumonia,
heart attack treatment and diabetes care. The program promoted patient safety by
monitoring infections and surgical complications and the delivery of
evidence-based care for congestive heart failure. Each hospital received a
detailed Quality Incentive Report and financial reimbursements based on their
performance. As a top performing hospital in the statewide program, Mercy
Medical Center received Blue Cross of Idaho’s Hospital Quality Award. In
addition to the Blue Cross award, Mercy has received several other recent awards
and honors that highlight Mercy’s ongoing commitment to excellence.

Qualis Health, a private, nonprofit health organization dedicated to quality
improvement, granted an Award for Excellence in Healthcare Quality to Mercy.

USA Today rated the top hospitals nationwide for cardiac care and out of 3000
hospitals, Mercy Medical Center received a 5 star rating, the highest rating
available, for cardiac care at both the state and national level.

Total Benchmark Solutions, LLC ranked Mercy Medical Center in the top 100 for
best acute care hospital in the country out of over 4000 hospitals in the
nationwide database. Mercy was also recognized for its excellence in cardiac
care.

These awards and honors highlight Mercy’s commitment to excellence and places
the hospital as a true leader in healthcare quality. In addition to its
dedication for outstanding quality care, Mercy has also focused on meeting the
healthcare needs of its growing community. In August Mercy opened a new 21 bed
orthopedic/surgical unit and in September announced the purchase of over 60
acres of land near the new I-84 Karcher/Midland interchange to position it for
the future growth of Nampa and the surrounding community.

Mercy Medical Center is a 152 bed acute care hospital serving the medical needs
of the greater Nampa area. Mercy Medical Center was founded in 1918 by The
Sisters of Mercy and is now owned and operated by Catholic Health Initiatives, a
national nonprofit healthcare system. Mercy’s medical services are provided at
Mercy Medical Center, Mercy North Health Center, Mercy Home Health and Hospice,
and the Mercy Family Birthing Center all in Nampa, Idaho.
